[ Lowering himself to sit on the edge of the bed, he almost cracks a smile at the white sunburst of her messy hair. Logan huffs, folding and refolding that damp washcloth. ]
Now that I know you didn't pass away overnight from alcohol poisoning?
[ A gruff reply, but she should know him well enough to catch the sincerity under the sarcasm. ]
She kind of acts like a tiny version of you so yes, I am a little surprised to learn that she's a unicorn kind of girl.
[ She is also surprised that Logan thought of it, but he is being very sweet right now so she doesn't want to make him feel bad. Especially now that she knows how insecure he feels about the whole parenting thing. ]
What do you think I should be having doubts about?
She's still a little girl, 'Ro. [ He scoffs. ] Don't most girls go through a unicorn, rainbow-Barbie bullshit phase?
[ That was what she wanted in Harrah's, at least, bypassing the dozens of tacky Oklahoma City shirts and making a beeline for the one with the rainbow unicorn. Even before she spoke a word to him, Laura made that perfectly clear.
He shrugs. ]
Maybe the fact that you refused to walk up the drive, and made me carry you the rest of the way?
[ Her tone is only mildly scolding, and she gets some more water into herself before impatiently blowing on a strand of hair that is insisting on dangling in front of her face. ]
I was never a barbie kind of girl, but I did rather enjoy figuring out how to create rainbows. As for carrying me my feet were tired, and your hair might be gray but you're still built like a brick shit house so I figured it wouldn't be much of an effort for you to give me a ride.
[ As she settles back, he's leaning in, brushing her messy bangs off her forehead so he can place that compress. He recalls all too keenly the times he had to tend to Charles' headaches the same way, waiting for the meds to kick in. The similarity ends there.
His skeptical expression tells her just what he thinks of that compliment, too. ]
You'd be the only one to think that. Want some more water?
[ It's not so much dismissive, he feels, as it is honest. ]
[ No space booze for her today. It's good to see him smile, though. She understands why it doesn't come easy to him, it never has for as long as she's known him, and time didn't exactly make it easier for him. All the same, she's glad that she can lure it out of him every once in a while. ]
If you'd consider joining me for breakfast, though...
[ She's mostly after his company, but if he would be kind enough to actually hunt down said breakfast for her too he would earn some major bonus points. ]
[ He returns to offer the full glass, doubtful. Behind him, the morning sun tries to sneak past the curtains, a sliver of cool light where the heavy fabric doesn't quite meet. ]
Sure you wanna chance it?
[ Laura should be awake soon, he knows, if she's not already up and getting into trouble. ]
[ She accepts it and takes a sip, and then needs a bit of a break before answering because her stomach decides that it is time for a moment of rebellion. ]

Maybe a little. How much do you remember?
no subject
[ She takes a couple more sips of water, taking it easy just so she doesn't end up vomiting all over Logan.
She frowns a little as a memory from the tail end of the night surfaces, mostly because she isn't entirely convinced that she isn't making it up. ]
Did you really get Laura a little unicorn?

That's what you don't believe?

He does look surprised at her admission though. Dry, ] You're flattering me, 'Ro. You also fell asleep before I brought you inside.

[ She drinks the last of the water and puts the glass aside, re-arranging some pillows so that she can lean back against them. ]
You still look good. And yeah, I remember drifting off.
[ She clears her throat a little and avoids looking him in the eyes. ]
I felt safe.

Wanna bet?
[ She still feels absolutely rotten, but his company is doing a lot to cheer her up. ]
And I probably should have some more if nothing else.

Logan reaches over to pick up her glass, taking it with him for a refill. ]
I'm sure I could find you some hair of the dog. Gotta give me a bit longer on that.
[ Then he does smile, small and brief but genuine, before he's all-business once more. ]

I'm good, thanks.

Mhm.
[ That probably didn't seem very confident. ]
Yeah. I'm sure.
[ Better? ]

I'll get you some toast.
[ He makes a curious motion when he stands, like he might touch her shoulder, but no, his fingers close and his hand drops to his side. ]
